Day 9 Villatuerta Puente to Los Arcos

25km's and somewhat very exhausted, lucky to find a bed arriving so late in Los Arcos

We set off from Villatuerta Puente and said goodbye to Amanda and Angela our new friends from the UK. Took a pic of us all at the door of the Albergue.  We had a fabulous evening in the Albergue, far too much wine consumed.

Today we celebrated Meme's 60th birthday, we planned a chilled day and then ended up walking 25km's, not sure why.

From Villatuerta Puente we had a lovely slow walk to Estella, Amanda and Angela caught up to us. We had about 20mins together before they headed to the bus terminal in Estella. It's very sad that they were heading home as we would have loved to have walked with them.
Meme and I stopped for a coffee and something to eat in Estella and then wondered off to Irache.
The Irache wine farm has a Fuente de Vino with a webcam. It was time to celebrate Meme's 60th so we poured some wine and Rob watched us on the webcam. Pilgrims are allowed to drink as much as they like, it was so much fun.
Meme drank from the tap, it was so exciting for us carrying on like children again.
After all that wine we felt somewhat sluggish so we stopped off at Hotel Irache for some coffee. The wind was getting rather cold and I needed to warm up.
Then we walked a beautiful path to the quiet village of Azqueta, stopped for food again. At this stage we had no plans to walk any major distance for the day.
From Azqueta we took a short walk uphill to Villamajor de Monjardin, about a 650m elevation with stunning views.
We picked up some supplies and felt good enough to carry on. To carry on mean't another 11.5km's. We took the plunge and started the walk. We were fortunate to not have many hills and the countryside was beautiful.
It started to warm up a little, not enough for me to take my top off.
We got into Los Orcos at about 17:30 and most of the  beds were taken. We were lucky to find two beds in a bit of a dodge Albergue but I guess a bed is better than no bed. At least the showers were hot.
Meme and I went into town for a quick dinner and now a good nights rest is on the cards.

That's it folks.
